He/She will maintain scientific and prototyping equipment (commercial and home-built) and computer systems, assist with the procurement of equipment, services & materials, maintain a stock of lab consumables, and with prototyping and small-scale manufacturing of components or experimental setups. He/She will provide logistics support for classes, workshops and similar events, such as setting up/clearing experiments, packing materials, and perform general lab house-keeping (including administrative tasks such as maintaining inventory, licenses, maintenance records, equipment usage tracking and billing). Occasionally, he/she may assist as a supporting facilitator for classes.

He/She will work individually and as part of a team of technical staff to keep laboratories/workplaces safe, participate in risk assessments, and may have to serve as a certified first aider. This also involves training/supervising staff and students in the safe use of tools and equipment, and ensuring that safety protocols are followed.

The candidate should have a good general understanding of science/technology (in particular physical/mechanical/electrical) and demonstrate the ability to apply such knowledge in practical, engineering-type work. He/She must be a keen learner and be able to pick up/refine skills in prototyping, trouble-shooting and maintenance.

The candidate must be able to manage his/her responsibilities independently in a fast-paced work environment. An organized, responsible and proactive attitude, in particular with regard to lab safety, is important.  Occasional work on weekends/public holidays may be required.

The candidate must have a strong command of English (oral and written) and be able to work with staff and students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
